Dealing with addiction
An addict has to realize he has a problem, get help, and stay committed to recovery. This book is a great help to anyone--especially an addict.

Exploring addiction and recovery - Creatively!
I really enjoyed this book. Roy Clinton explores the issue of addiction and recovery through a really thoughtful and entertaining western. There are a million self-help books on addiction recovery, yet none that I've read have approached the issue in this format. Thanks for giving me an entertaining way to think through such an important issue! I'm inspired to integrate all the attributes Clint gleans through the book: Patience, tolerance, love, etc. A great read for anyone searching!
~ Dan

A creative way to learn about addiction recovery!
Written very simply and within the detailed framework of life at a Texas oil and game ranch, this book describes the personal journey of a middle-aged cowboy whose life has spiraled out of control because of his repeated cheating on his wife, his hard drinking, and his short temper. Spurred on by a fellow cowboy who Clint noticed has come to more peace about his life, Clint begins on a journey of addiction recovery. Authored by an addiction therapist, this book provides an unusual and easily understood perspective on the process of changing one’s life for the better.

This Lone Ranger Left Me Wanting More
November 22, 2018
This was my first western novel, so I may not be in the best position to judge this book. The plot and characters pulled me in. I could picture the town, the horse, the characters, and the shootouts. By the time I finished this first book, I was genuinely interested in the future of the citizens of Bandera, angry with the town's council, and eager to find out what happens to John Crudder's relationship with Charlotte. The main character has the intelligence, skill, strength, and resourcefulness of Batman or a Hollywood-created western hero. If you like stories of good guys standing up to the evil around them, then you'll love this fast-paced story of a privileged Ivy League lawyer turned Texas vigilante.

I have read the entire series and enjoyed all of the books. I especially enjoyed reading about someone who was rich, but wanted to help others rather than get richer. I hope other books about John Crudder will be coming out. I read a lot of westerns and fell that this series is very realistic and has enough action that it keeps the reader engaged. Imaginary and well-written. Not your usually predictable western drama. I enjoyed the way the story unravels, but by bit, to reveal the hidden core that dram revolves around. Like magnetism, I am drawn to the next book in this continuing saga.

Was not my favorite western. The premise of a super wealthy individuals being a lone vigilante seems weak. He could use his wealth to help or put together a group of individuals.

Did not think John crudder would not use his wealth to form a group to solve the injustices he encounters. Seems far fetched.

A Well Written Western
June 4, 2018
This was a book that you couldn't put down. John Crudder is a man who finds his purpose and passion in creating justice to the oppressed. It was beautifully written and depicted the wild wild west in the 1800's. I suspect that he is smart enough to figure out how to get his needs met with Miss Charlotte and continue on his journey to right the wrongs of the exploited. The preview for Book 2 keeps you hanging. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a good Western!.

Midnight Marauder is a unique read. The book immediately draws you in and then as you continue John Crudder becomes more than just the main character, he becomes your friend. The author creates an environment you can easily imagine, with historically and geographically accurate details to tug at your memory. I'm not usually a reader of the Western genre, but this book was recommended to me, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to enjoy this. It is well written, interesting, entertaining, believable, and captivating. I look forward to continuing to follow the life of the Midnight Marauder!

It is preposterous because no person could do what the hero does. It is sort of like enjoying the comics of Superman, Captain Marvel etc. Not real life but fun to see the bad guys get what they deserve and the good guys triumph over the evil ones. I expect more of the same in the next book.

Roy did a great job of capturing me in a journey into the wild west. John was an unexpected pleasure and looked forward to reading where he would end up, throughout the book. Unfortunately the justices of the west were many and it is nice to see someone like John was there to balance the scales when possible. I wish I had a horse like Midnight. Midnight Marauder and the President of the United States: A Series of Western Novels Featuring the Adventures of John Crudder by Roy Clinton is a gripping story with powerful historical hints and strong social and political commentaries. The president needs the help of the Midnight Marauder to root out the scumbags responsible for the financial crisis that is hitting the country this hard. John Crudder feels honored to do the president’s bidding, a mission that takes him back to his childhood city of New York and to Washington DC. It just so happens that the enemies of the state are John’s personal enemies and he can’t stand the fact that they have also hurt the one man he loves with utmost loyalty.

Roy Clinton blends adventure and a political thriller, creates characters that are bold, and develops themes that are both exciting and relevant. The novel feels real, a work that is well-researched and featuring political and social commentaries that provoke in readers a reflection on the reality of contemporary America. The narrative voice is strong and it combines both humor and suspense to maintain readers' interest. The characters are compelling, elaborately developed with rich backgrounds. Midnight Marauder and the President of the United States is beautifully written. The story opens with the unusual meeting between President Ulysses S. Grant and John, a meeting in which the president expresses concerns about the collapse of one of the banks that financed the railroads. It makes for a powerful premise to have the president personally ask for someone's services. The dialogues and the narration are top-notch and the plot makes it difficult to put this book down.

This story was really compelling, when i saw the title at first i thought it would be cheesy, but once i got into the story, it all made a ton of sense and loved the new character development, continuations from the previous books, and intensity on how continual plot lines would be resolved. This was a very well written book and could not get enough of the story and wished it would keep going.

Some people are good though and through but are rarely in a position to overcome pervasive evil especially when it is so systemic.
While consequences can’t be undone, the Midnight Marauder offers hope that there might be someone who will at least try to limit the spread of the swamp if not drain it completely.  Collins provides a wide range of emotional stimulations - find out how you react!

Love Child: A Midnight Marauder Adventure is a true western novel that was an excellent read. When Slim Hanson discovers he has a teenage son, Richie, from a woman he loved very much many years ago, he is thrilled. Slim, his daughter, Charlotte, and her husband, John Crudder, and his horse, Midnight, welcome Richie into the family with open arms and lots of love. Richie has come because his mother, Marie, has been murdered and she had told him that if anything ever happened to her he should go to Bandera because he has family there. When John hears the story of how Marie was murdered, he takes it upon himself to track down the killer and bring him to justice. John faces many life-threatening and scary situations as he tracks down the bad guys.

There were many twists, turns and alarming events that made it impossible to put down Love Child. I particularly liked that Roy Clinton made the story come alive and it was so very accurate to the time period. This is the first book I have read by Roy Clinton but I look forward to reading all of the John Crudder Midnight Marauder Adventures as soon as possible. If you like the ‘Old West’ genre, this book is a must-read. I believe this would make a great TV series or perhaps even a movie. I highly recommend this book for men and women, young and old. Thank you, Roy Clinton, for a winning book in Love Child.

RICHIE FINDS HIS FATHER
Slim Hanson whose the elected Mayor of Bandera just found out he has a son "Richie" Richard Hanson Jr. He didn't know the woman he loved was pregnant with his baby, she disappeared because her family didn't want her to embarrassing or tarnish her family's Castilian background by marrying a "gringo." When Slim found out who Richie was, he was dumbfounded to know he had a son. This family is very emotional, sensitive but they will back you if you need it. John Crudder goes on the hunt for Richie's mother's murderer, almost gets killed while hunting for these three hooligans, who seemed to leave more murdered people as they rode through the town's and outlying small ranches...a very bad bunch of men no heart or soul. They almost killed John when he was ambushed, they trapped front, back and side and they rained bullets on him. They left him for dead. You thought this is the last of John Crudder aka "Midnight Marauder" sad since his family would have missed him terribly..ahh but such is the life on the frontier cheap.
This is a great series I love the family, they are strong and seem to be kind to people, but don't take these emotions as a weakness because they are far from weak..Lordy, these men are strong and they love to eat. Slim loves his twin granddaughters, son in law John, and now his son Richie...LOL

The Midnight Marauder, John Crudder, has once again taken to the road to capture the very evil Butch Granger and his three friends in Bad to the Bone by Roy Clinton. When Butch arrives in Bandera and kills Jack and Thelma, an elderly couple John and his family know well, in a very violent and senseless way, John knows he must follow their trail and bring them to justice. As he follows their path through many small towns, he finds that Butch has killed many more seniors as well as a young child, dogs, cats and horses, all of them brutally and with much more extra force than needed. Butch is known, feared and wanted in many of the towns John travels through and the more he hears, the more he learns how evil Butch is. Butch has no conscience and has enjoyed hurting people since he was a young boy just because he could. This makes John even more anxious to stop him as quickly as possible

Bad to the Bone: A Midnight Marauder Adventure is an old time western story with adventure, excitement, and surprises that kept me reading late into the night. I have very quickly become a fan of the Midnight Marauder series and Roy Clinton’s writing. He has a perfect knack of making the story very real while keeping all of the fictional elements as well. Bad to the Bone is a winner, as is the whole series. If you enjoy a good old fashioned cowboy story, this is a must-read for young and old. It is a well written, clean story without cursing or sex scenes; just a good, solid book.

... BEAUTIFULLY MULTI-DIMENSIONAL CHARACTERS ...
Bad to the Bone expands on the fabric of who The Midnight Marauder is at heart and his passion for bringing justice to those cannot find it for themselves. Mr. Clinton's talent for drawing such beautifully multi-dimensional characters adds to the feeling that I know The Midnight Marauder more intimately than ever and combined with the other books in the series, weaves an even more rich picture of John Crudder's motivations and behavior. Intertwined with an intriguing story line are the details of the region at the time making Bad to the Bone all the more enjoyable!  This story was really, really good!

A very fun read that provides a good excuse to lounge around on a Saturday afternoon with a great book on your lap!

Now you know!

We grow up accepting, for the most part, what our parents tell us without really questioning their motives. Now we know the origin of the admonishment - never take candy from a stranger. And I always thought it only applied to girls. The story doesn’t end as we might expect because money should solve or resolve all problems. shouldn’t it?

Gripping recounting of the first time Kidnapping for Ransom was committed
July 22, 2019
The book went to great detail to tell the story of Charlie and his kidnappers and family as accurately as possible. My heart was moved in this story and gained some new perspectives that I didn't have before. Even though the subject was hard to read as a Dad, the story was told very well and compelling to read and figure out what came next. Entertaining and tough but historical and educational.

A thrilling read and with suspense in every chapter. Was he caught or kill. Another great read of the Midnight Marauder waiting on the next book. Highly recommended.

A companion to Purgatory John is after the Butcher who was believed to be killed. Now the Butcher is after all those involved in his trail. The killing continues but will John get there in time. A great book, but I don't think it over yet. Waiting for the next book.
